The Abortion "Sign" For The Deaf: A Two-Second Video Tells A Thousand Words

Look at what "abortion" is in the American Sign Language Dictionary.  Click the link if this video isn't operating.  I checked with a speech-language pathologist who knows sign language before this was posted to verify that it is the correct sign.  She stated that there are sometimes different variations for the same word, and this one is acceptable. Click here for a similar sign, and this is the sign for abort.

  2. Exactly what abortion is. Well defined by the American sign language dictionary. As defined by the 2013 online Webster dictionary: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. I think the ASL definition is far more on point.

  3. Where words fail us all too often, like graphic signs, "signing" in this case communicates the graphic truth in a uniquely horrific yet memorable way.

  7. While this is VERY close, it is not the real sign for the word "abortion."

The real sign for the word is here:

While the absence of the sign for "baby" is the main difference, the sign is still SO sad and gut wrenching. I'm only correcting because pro-abortionists usually take any false information we post/say and harp on it and use it against us and our argument. It's important we only spread truth!

  8. Variation #4 at http://www.signingsavvy.com/sign/ABORTION/839/4 is basically the same as the sign shown here. All the variations show the 'throw away' gesture.

  9. I checked with a speech-language pathologist before I posted this and she said there are different ways to sign the same word just as there are different spoken dialects.

  10. This is a variation (there are several) for the word. It is correct.

  11. This is a powerful visual. The sign for abortion varies depending on the context of its use. For example, the sign for aborting a mission is different from the sign for aborting a baby as we see here.

  12. Monte Harms-- I think it's better if you add some more explanations to your blog, about some various signs for the word. Just suggestion.

Kelly-- While what you said is true, yes, most Deaf people might not mention "baby". But, I actually saw some Deaf people do say what the woman signs. Why is why I had to step in and explained about different ways to sign 'abortion.'

  14. As an Interpreter, I would sign it as the video; however, I may sign it differently depending on my location. Just as states have their own form of slang, ASL does, too. It in not universal. The video is accurate and fully understandable.

teach the children to stop raping deaf girls, and less deaf girls may need to know about abortion.
Google Deaf Girl Raped to read numerous stories about the atrocities we commit against those less fortunate.
