UPDATE - THE OVERRIDE PASSED. THANKS EVERYONE.
Supporters of a pro-life bill in North Carolina have sent out an urgent message:
House Bill 854, Abortion – Women’s Right To Know, is a bill to protect women was vetoed by the governor Bev Perdue. It will return to the General Assembly for a vote to override sometime in the next 2 ½ weeks. They are 1 vote short in the NC House of Representatives, and 1 vote short in the NC Senate, of being able to overturn the Governor’s veto.
This bill simply will protect women who are considering having an abortion. It would require a 24-hour waiting period and the voluntary and informed consent of a pregnant woman before an abortion can be performed.
Informed consent means: (the following has been copied from the actual House Bill that was voted on in the NC House of Representatives)
At least 24 hours before the abortion, the physician or qualified professional has orally informed the woman, by telephone or in person the following:
· The name of the physician who will perform the abortion.
· The medical risks associated with the procedure to be used.
· The probable gestational age of the unborn child.
· The medical risks associated with carrying the unborn child to term.
· That ultrasound imaging and heart tone monitoring are available; the sources of information providing the phone numbers and addresses of facilities that offer these services free of charge; and, if requested by the woman, the list compiled by the Department.
· The fact that the physician who is to perform the abortion has no liability insurance for malpractice, if that is the case.
· The location of the hospital offering obstetrical or gynecological care within 30 miles of the abortion is to be performed, and at which the physician performing the abortion has clinical privileges. If the physician has no local admitting privileges, that information shall be communicated.
You also may find it very interesting that in a recent poll taken in NC –
· 63% of women between the ages of 18 and 44 agree with this bill
· 52% of African American Women agree with this bill (although NOT a single African American Woman Legislator voted for it)
· 45% of Democrat voters agree with this bill
· 55% of Independent voters agree with this bill
· 72% of Republican voters agree with this bill
To date; 3 Democrat Representatives and EVERY Republican Representative have voted FOR this bill. The 3 Democrats who voted in support of this bill are:
Representative Brisson – 919-733-5772
Representative Hill – 919-733-5830
Representative Spear – 919-715-3029
PLEASE contact them to say Thank you, and to encourage them to vote YES again when the revote happens. These are very brave Representatives – they have spoken against their party. They will be under a great deal of pressure to change their vote this next time around.
The two Representatives that I am asking you to please contact and ask them to vote YES on this bill are: (they are both Democrats, who are considering voting YES for this bill)
Representative Crawford – 919-733-5824
Representative Wilkins – 919-715-0850
Representative Crawford represents Oxford and Henderson. Representative Wilkins represents Roxboro. From what I have been told, both of these gentlemen are leaning towards voting YES on this bill. Friendly phone calls will go A LONG way to encouraging them to vote YES.
If you know anyone who lives in the Oxford, Henderson or Roxboro areas, PLEASE send this to them. While ALL calls will help greatly, phone calls from people who live in their districts do mean MORE.
Legislators listen to their caucus (party) until they get bombarded from their constituents. They want to be re-elected.
No matter what your beliefs are regarding abortion, I pray that you understand how VERY important this bill is. We cannot have ANY type of surgical procedure without being fully informed…so why should an abortion be any different? Why are people against this? The world that we live in is all about being informed. 34 other States in our Country have passed similar laws – with by-partisan support. PLEASE do all that YOU can to help NC pass this law.
To recap: PLEASE – PRAY, contact the Representatives listed above (5 of them) and PLEASE forward this on to as many people as you can.
I thank you in advance for helping. God Bless you, your family and all the women and babies in NC and in the United States of America.
Deanna Jones of Mother The World will have an important podcast on Monday, July 18, 9:00 PM EST about this bill. She also has the following video to explain more about a woman's right to know.
Gail Hayes gives her abortion testimony in the following video and talks about why a woman should have a right to know as much as possible about the unborn.
