So many liberals define their belief or non-belief of an issue or person solely on what I call the "one percent rule." In other words, find the one percent of something or someone they don't like and extrapolate that to defining the whole issue or person.
It's amazing to watch someone who is not a Christian defend their position because of some unethical practice or "wacky" comment by an isolated pastor or Christian leader. Most totally disregard, or maybe they're just ignorant, of all the great things Christian people and organizations have done around the world. As an example, whenever there is some natural disaster anywhere in the world, organizations such as Samaritan's Purse, are there within days. This is done without fanfare and virtually no media attention.
They disregard how converting to Christianity has had such a positive impact on individual lives for centuries. They actually search for the rusty needle in the haystack to focus on and make it their cornerstone of non-Christian beliefs. About once a year or two Christian Broadcasting Network founder Pat Robertson says something a little off the wall or makes some prediction that God revealed to him. Christian sceptics jump all over it, but totally disregard all of his daily teachings and everything he has done or said promoting Christianity on the 700 Club for years.
Those who believe in abortion will often only focus on the "rape" question when defending their position. They disregard the 99% of unborn children killed by reasons other than rape. I've heard their defense of abortion as "What if a 13-year-old girl was raped by her father?" It's just a distraction from them having to defend the killing of the unborn for any other reason.
To demean Sarah Palin most liberals single out the one statement about seeing Russia from parts of Alaska. My first reaction is that they don't care one iota about her beliefs or the policies and legislation she promoted while governor of Alaska. On the other hand, maybe they realize how popular her views are, and they are using her Russia statement to demonize her and show how stupid she apparently is.
And the list could go on ...
But when there is solid evidence that a liberal, Democrat, or a member of a religion they defend does or says something wrong they often promote it at as an isolated incident. We are told the focus should be on the greater good of whatever or whoever they are defending, i.e., Bill Clinton, the peaceful Muslims instead of the Ft. Hood shooter's connection with Islam, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, etc.
No, conservatives do not normally practice the same double standard. There are a few that focus on what Obama said about there being 57 states or pronouncing the "p" in a speech about Navy corpsmen, but almost all criticism of Obama is about his socialist beliefs and what he has promoted and even passed while in office. Also, most conservatives realize there is a problem with American Muslim terrorist acts that should not be whisked under the rug in the name of diversity.
Why do most liberals use the "one percent rule" to make their arguments? I believe they do it because they can't logically defend their position using the evidence of the other 99% of the issue or person. It's much easier to grab at something that sounds sensational or outlandish and run with it. Unfortunately, the mainstream media normally promotes "the one percent" and too many people follow like sheep with the liberal argument.
