Observations Of The World We Live In - April 2010

Here are a few observations that popped in my head ...
or maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

1.  I just received a mailing from Focus on the Family about Anna's decision not to have an abortion after seeing the Tim Tebow ad during the Super Bowl.  That is fantastic!  I wonder if any other babies were saved by the showing of this very subtle ad.  Just a thought:  For the amount of the money they spent on this ad they could buy at least 70 new ultrasound machines including all the training for their own Option Ultrasound ministry.  Think of the amount of lives that could have been saved by placing them in pregnancy centers or similar pro-life organizations throughout the country.

2.  Obama said that he didn't have a litmus test for his Supreme Court nominee, but then he stated he wanted someone "who is going to be interpreting our Constitution in a way that takes into account individual rights, and that includes women's rights.  And that's going to be something that is very important to me."  Does he think Americans don't see through this?  Of all the issues in our society how interesting it is that when a Democrat president selects a Supreme Court nominee he or she must be in favor of killing the innocent unborn.  Abortion is the one issue liberals, and in this case radicals, do not budge on?  But when you ask them why they are liberal they often will say because they are for the little guy or for human rights.  But, of course, that doesn't pertain to the littlest guy who, to them, should have no human rights.

3.  Natural progression of a few pro-life organizations:  A. Start with a great idea.  B. Do this full time with no other source of income.  C. Get others involved and have success.   D. Send out massive e-mails or have conference calls stating how dire the financial situation is and one has to send money in now or the world is going to come to an end.  E. Then make everyone feel guilty if they don't add to your coffers.   In other words, I have a great idea for an organization, but I want everyone else to pay for it.  If they don't, then they're the problem.  Why not have a way to donate on your site or in your publications or e-mails.  If you don't get the donations you need, then it wasn't meant to be.

4.  College tuition has skyrocketed.  Where is the outrage from Obama and the Democrats?  Why aren't they trying to take control of the universities?  Oh, wait - they already are in control.

5.  It's interesting to watch the unions scream because of budget cuts across this country.  The union members overwhelmingly voted for Obama who has done nothing to help the economy, but actually has made it worse.  So businesses and government entities have to cut back, but the union members don't seem to make the connection.  The unions will support him again in a heartbeat.

6.  President Obama went to North Carolina and visited the Rev. Billy Graham. Why do I think this is nothing more than a political ploy to make himself appear more Christian and conservative?  His goal is to thwart dissent from Americans to make it easier for him to get his radical agenda passed before the November elections?  In his mind if he sounds like he's just one of us it makes it quite a bit easier.

7.  Immigration protests have already become violent. Let's see how the liberal press portrays them compared to how they demonized the Tea Parties.

8.  So the liberals have been attacking the Tea Parties, which is very predictable. But I've heard grumblings from some in a group that is as far from liberal as one can get - pro-lifers. Their major complaint, of course, is why isn't the Tea Party fighting for the unborn? Why aren't they even having pro-life signs? Also, 4000 unborn babies are killed in the country every day, and the Tea Party crowd is more worried about money. My response to that is yes, that would be fantastic if the millions that support the Tea Party movement would equally have the same passion for the unborn that pro-lifers do, but that is not the case.

The reason the protests have been so successful is because of two basic reasons: they are focused on the issue of out-of-control spending and the resulting high taxation for several generations. Secondly - and maybe most important - is that the outrage is genuine. No organization such as a political party, union, or a community group told these Americans that they needed to be so upset about the spending issue and thus have to hit the streets. Many of the Tea Partiers have never been passionately involved before about any social or political issue until they saw what the radical Obama administration is doing to this country. Ancillary to the spending issue is the fact that the administrations is shoving down our collective throats programs such as the health care bill, taking over private companies, and doing nothing to help the small businesses succeed.

If people were as outraged about abortion there would be a natural progression to have a similar Tea Party protest. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. So to try to have the current Tea Party to adopt something that is not genuinely something that gets the masses to hit the streets is counterproductive. If the movement would all of a sudden say "Let's protest abortion, too" they would lose most of the momentum in this country and thus lose a great chance to throw the liberals out in November. Since the problem is the liberals in the administration and Congress, the solution is to get rid of them at the ballot box.  It's not to alienate many Americans who aren't passionate about the pro-life issue. When conservatives win in Congress at least the pro-life issue should have more supporters than it does now in our representatives.

The solution? Instead of whining that the Tea Party doesn't embrace the pro-life issue, just start your own movement. Of course, most pro-lifers are constantly attempting this, but when they don't get the results that are desired it doesn't do any good to denigrate something that is successful. What is frustrating is that the pro-life issue has taken baby steps in the collective conscience of Americans while what has happened at the town halls and the Tea Party rallies is one giant step overnight.

There possibly could be a very positive result for the pro-life movement because of the Tea Parties. Along with the chance of getting more pro-lifers elected, there is by far the more desired result of getting more Americans to think about issues they normally wouldn't pay any attention to. Since a high percentage of Tea Partiers never have been involved any protest before it improves the chance that they will be vocal about some other injustice they see. If the average Americans can get this worked up about spending and a controlling government then there always is the possibility they can get this passionate against abortion. Unfortunately, it may take more baby steps.
